Hexagram Analysis
I Ching Hexagram 6 : 訟 Sung / Conflict
The trigrams of heaven and water move in opposite directions, creating a sense of conflict. The Creative represents strength, while the Abysmal embodies danger and cunning. When these traits clash, conflict arises. Furthermore, a person who possesses both deep cunning and unwavering determination is likely to be argumentative and combative.
The Judgment
When opposing views clash, conflict arises. If one is not confident in their stance, they may resort to deceit or forceful tactics instead of open confrontation. To resolve conflict, one must possess clarity and inner strength, and be willing to compromise. Continuing a dispute to the bitter end, even if one is in the right, only perpetuates animosity. It is crucial to seek the guidance of an impartial authority figure to reach a fair resolution. During times of turmoil, it is best to avoid risky endeavors that require unified focus. Internal conflict weakens the ability to overcome external threats.
The Image
The visual representation suggests that the roots of discord lie dormant within the contrasting inclinations of the two trig rams. Once these divergent tendencies come to the surface, conflict becomes an inevitability. To circumvent this, one must exercise prudence from the outset. By establishing clear-cut rights and responsibilities, or by fostering a shared spiritual ethos among a collective, the seeds of conflict can be preemptively uprooted.
